Workshop Theatre

Workshop Theatre, 1136 Bull Street, presents a new musical or dramatic production every two months throughout the year.  For more information about the theater or its acting school, phone 803-799-4876.  Or, go to WorkshopTheatre.com.

Workshop Theatre was founded in 1967 by a group of thirteen theatre lovers who worked tirelessly to build a new community theatre.  They didn't just conceptualize, they worked -- remodeling an old office building, demolishing walls, painting, cleaning, building, acting, directing and producing.  And they educated.  They brought new people into the mix, giving them new experiences as well as offering formal classroom training for youth and adults.  The key concept for this group was a "working, learning community."

Time has passed, the players have changed, but the concept remains the same.  Productions at Workshop are more lavish, computers have replaced index cards, but the driving force behind Workshop Theatre is still its working, learning community of volunteers.  We look back with pride of the accomplishments of our founders, and forward to the challenges of building the next stage.
