What is dual band mean on a wireless router?
I am looking to buy a wireless router and i noticed that most have a 2.4 GHz frequency and then i saw some with 2.4 and 5 GHz that they call dual band. I was just wondering what the point of the second frequency? and what kind of situations would you want another frequency? thanks
The 2.4GHz band is rather crowded. In addition to Wi-Fi, it's also used by Bluetooth, many cordless telephones, and microwave ovens. The 2nd band will let the computer continue to find the router even if you also use these other things. However, you only get the benefit if your wi-fi card is also dual band and the 5GHz band has a much shorter range than the 2.4Ghz band.
