Monuments and Statues on the State Capitol Grounds

The African-American freedom monument on the State Capitol Grounds honors the contributions made to the state of South Carolina by African-Americans.

 

This statue depicts General Wade Hampton.

This is a statue of James F. Byrnes, former governor of South Carolina, and a state Supreme Court judge.

This monument on the State Capitol grounds marks US Route 76 as the "Jefferson Davis Memorial Highway," honoring the president of the Confederate States of America.

The Confederate flag has a place of honor at the front of the Capitol building. 

This statue of George Washington is at the North entrance to the State Capitol building, also known as the "State House."

At the south entrance to the Capitol building is a statue of Strom Thurmond, former governor and U.S. Senator from South Carolina. 

 

The Capitol Complex is dedicated to former governor McNair.
